Lisa Ling has spent her life telling stories. Using powerful anecdotes in her keynotes and lively Q&A sessions, she shares her 20-year career in the media: providing unique insight into how reporting stories that change our world ultimately changed her life. Ling pushes audiences to think globally, get out of their comfort zones and become more aware citizens.
Lisa Ling is one of America’s most respected broadcast journalists, and currently the executive producer and host of Our America on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). Her reporting on the popular show includes being embedded in a Midwest town ravaged by an onslaught of heroin and access inside an anti-gay religious movement. She also witnesses the manifestation of PTSD in returning veterans or war and goes undercover to investigate the under-age sex trafficking of minors in the nation’s capital.
Previously she was the host of National Geographic Explorer–the longest running documentary television program on cable television — since 2006. Over it’s incredible 24 year run, National Geographic Explorer has won over 400 awards, including a staggering 52 Emmy Awards and 2 Academy Award nominations. Lisa Ling brings the incredible stories on Explorer to life, acting as the engaging and highly professional face of the program.
Before hosting Explorer, Ling was a co-host of The View. In early 1999, after several on-air tryouts, Ling was picked from among three finalists to succeed Debbie Matenopoulos as a co-host of The View. Offering a unique mix of perspectives on topics ranging from celebrity interviews to politics and legal issues, the show earned several Emmy nominations for Outstanding Talk Show and Ling and her cohosts earned nods as Outstanding Talk Show Host. Our America’s second season was extended by eight episodes and will be returning in Spring 2012.
