Kim was born on August 21, 1956, in Liverpool, England. She is a Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated actress, her extensive acting career has spanned film, stage and television. Kim has recently received worldwide critical acclaim for her portrayal of the super sexy Samantha Jones, in the HBO hit series "Sex and the City".

Before her first birthday, Kim emigrated to Canada with her parents Dennis and Shane. Kim was raised on Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, Canada. At the age of 11, Kim returned to Great Britain and studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

Graduating from the London Academy, she moved to New York City by herself at the age of 16 to attend the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. After Kim's graduation, film director Otto Preminger signed her to a 5 year film contract. A year later, Universal Studios bought out that contract and Kim became one of the last participants of the Universal Contract Player System.

While under contract at Universal, Kim guest starred in numerous television series, which eventually led to starring roles opposite Jack Lemmon in his Academy Award nominated performance in "Tribute" and her Lead Actress Genie nomination and the Canadian Oscars for her performance in "Ticket to Heaven". Kim has starred in a host of blockbuster films, including "Police Academy 1", "Porky's", "Mannequin", "Masquerade", "Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country", John Carpenter's "Big Trouble in Little China" opposite Kurt Russell, and with Tom Hanks in Brian De Palma's "Bonfire Of TheVanities".

Her performance as Jamie in the independent feature "Live Nude Girls" earned her rave reviews at numerous Film Festivals. When not working in film or television, Kim has been on the stage starring in many critically acclaimed productions. Kim made her Broadway debut opposite Ian Mckellen in the National Theater's production of Chekhov's "Wild Honey". She has also stared in Moliere's "The Misanthrope", Strindberg's "Miss Julie", Anton Chekhov's "Three Sister's", and Arthur Miller's "A View From The Bridge". Fans have been able to see the personal side of Kim in the Lifetime television segment "Intimate Portrait: Kim Cattrall".

Kim is known to be a keen skier and has attended a number of celebrity ski events. Outside of films Kim is an advocate for senior citizens and is passionate about short-story writing. She and her husband, Mark Levinson, make their home in New York.
